Though started in 2015, company owners Zak Fellman and Dan Watson like to think that the Pillbox Bat Company started over two decades ago when they were playing Little League baseball together. It is then that they crafted their first bats, made from tree limbs and painted with house paint, that were used in neighborhood home run derbies and pickup ballgames.<\/p>\n
The “Pillbox Bat Co.” name pays tribute to the old Downtown Park in St. Paul, Minnesota. So small that, nicknamed the “Pillbox”, it is said that hits over the left and right field fences were only awarded two bases. The owners chose that name to pay homage to what baseball is all about \u2013 a simple game played on the local sandlot. The company\u2019s maple bat designs harken back to early-1900s styles and feature hand-painted artwork on each bat.<\/p>\n
